Worth:

el valor, el mérito; valer

Usa la palabra en una frase en inglés y también incluye la traducción en español. Intenta usar la palabra en una manera nueva y vota por las frases que te gustan más. La frase con más votos será coronada el ganador del juego de la palabra del día.

Las directrices:

  • Escribe frases que tienen al menos 5 palabras.
  • No escribas párrafos con 4 frases o más.
  • Haz las correcciones sugeridas por los usuarios y mods.
  • ¡Usa tus propias palabras! (No uses el traductor, ni un libro, ni letras de una canción.)
  • ¡Disfrútate en el juego del inglés!

Mi ejemplo:

Surprisingly, the oil painting in the living room is worth almost three million dollars.

Lo sorprendente es que la pintura al óleo en el salón vale casi tres millones de dólares

¡Estoy de acuerdo! When the verb is the subject of a sentence, you use the infinitive, unlike English where you use the gerund. "*Aprender* a hablar..." - Paralee, Feb 20, 2012
Muy bien! :cheese: - fjfuentesh, Feb 20, 2012
Thanks for the explanation Paralee. It really helps us beginners. - Maria-Russell, Feb 20, 2012
Yes, thank you. It is a big help and I need all of that I can get. - rac1, Feb 20, 2012

The worth of something cannot be measured by its price.

El valor de algo no puede ser medido por su precio.

A mí, mis hermanos menores valen el mundo.

My younger siblings are worth the world to me.

Un Explorador Águila que gana 121 insignias del mérito tiene buena razón para mostrarlas.

An Eagle Scout who earns 121 merit badges has good reason to show them.

ehhhh, bandit51jd, .... I have counted and recounted them, but he's showing only 103 of his merit badges ;-) - mcl020, Feb 20, 2012
I've wondered about the count too, maybe he has the rest on another sash or something! lol - bandit51jd, Feb 20, 2012
And I only had like 28 lol - Gregory84, Feb 20, 2012
Great sentence, Bandit. Is that you? I think you forgot to use the actual word of the day though :P - Paralee, Feb 21, 2012
Nope, that is not me, lol. I was in the Girl Scouts and my nephew was the Eagle Scout! - bandit51jd, Feb 22, 2012
Next time I'll do the actual word and not something like "badge"! Los siento! - bandit51jd, Feb 22, 2012

Está frase es tan malo ,no vale la pena corregirlo. This sentence is so bad it's not worth correcting.

Jaja. No es verdad. Solamente necesitas cambiar tus comas. "tan malo, no vale" and "so bad, it's not" - Paralee, Feb 21, 2012

In front of singular, masculine nouns, remember to shorten "uno" to "un." Also, the Spanish on this one is tricky. "Valer" means "to be worth," so you don't need "es valor," but would use "vale más." Great job remembering that you use a decimal in Spanish - Paralee, Feb 21, 2012

I doubt it that so-called expert advice is always worth while.

Dudo que un asesoramiento consejo de expertos pretendidos supuestos siempre valga la pena.

Almost perfect English, just add a hyphen for "so-called." In Spanish, I would use "consejo" instead of "asesoramiento" and "supuestos" instead of "pretendidos." - Paralee, Feb 21, 2012
Thanks. - Castor77, Feb 21, 2012

The worth of the antique was not in money but in sentiment.

El valor de la antigüedad no era en dinero pero en el sentimiento.

A las cosas simples de la vida (como oler una flor), no les damos el verdadero valor hasta que las perdemos.
