Hi Michelle, I edited your title to be a little more clear. Please use correct punctuation for our English learners. Welcome to the forum! - StuartSD, Feb 15, 2012

Hi Michelle. You can find this by looking through the dictionary entry for place. You say "lugar" in Spanish.

"puesto (m) lugar (m) (in competition, society)

in first/second place -> en primer/segundo lugar in the first place… -> en primer lugar… in the second place… -> en segundo lugar…"

Hope this helps!

Are you asking to have someone help you translate this?

The student who won second place at the science fair.

El estudiante que ganó el segundo lugar en la feria de ciencias.

The students who won second place at the science fair.

Los estudiantes que ganaron el segundo lugar en la feria de ciencias.

Disclaimer: I am not a native Spanish speaker. Just trying to be helpful.

A feria de ciencias is a "science fair" - Spenco, Feb 15, 2012
If you have a person in third place that would be "tercero lugar". - Spenco, Feb 15, 2012

When you "place" in something... It is like you earned a spot in a contest... You can place 1st, 2nd, 3rd... ect. - NikkiLR, Feb 15, 2012
In a horse race you have three positions 1st 2nd 3rd. First is the winner. Second is placing. Third place is "show". - Spenco, Feb 15, 2012
The term "to place" if used correctly means to come in 2nd in the race or contest. - Spenco, Feb 15, 2012
Also, if your terminology is not correct and you look up "placed" you will get a owrd that means they were set down somewhere such as a counter top. - Spenco, Feb 15, 2012
What about fair? - Eddy, Feb 15, 2012
