In English "Cutting one's teeth" refers to a person starting a challenging new job or project. Is there an equivalent "refrán" in Spanish?

Weird, I've never heard such a question. - Gregory84, Feb 10, 2012

It is not in the phrasebook here. Or at least I can't find it. I was able to find some info here, though.

It seems that, in Spain, the idiom is "romper la mano." Apparently, in the Americas, the verb foguearse is the way to go.

Keep in mind, though, that I'm not a native speaker.

Nice question Vic, I just searched the Phrasebook and did not find anything on it so I'll be watching this question also.
