Libre

free, spare, clear

This thread is kindly moderated by Dr, Vicente. Please correct your posts according to Dr. Vicente's indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs should not be longer than 1 1/2 lines but can have up to 3 line for practice.
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

Siempre quiero tener un día libre, pero si tuviera mañana libre, estoy seguro de que el día pasaría volando…..Es muy triste….

I always wish for a day off, but if I had tomorrow off, I am sure the day would fly by – it’s very sad…

Free time is wonderful, but the bad thing in it is that you have to go back to work afterwards.

El tiempo libre es fantástico, pero el peor para él es que tendrás que volver a trabajo después.

Correction: El tiempo libre es fantástico, pero lo peor es que tendrás que volver al trabajo después.

No language community is as cool as SD. Just to made do, you can take a Mandarin class to get the basics, then use popupchinese.com. - JazSpanish, Jan 31, 2012

you need to use a pronoun with gustar or it's not clear who is the object (the person who likes). Also "me gustaría" is "I would like" not I like. - rabbitwho, Jan 31, 2012
Way to go, jennyO, easier sentences, easier structures, then work up from there...look at the tense, it must be present simple, gustaría is would read - 00494d19, Jan 31, 2012
A seeing eye dog? Jeje.:) - Jraider, Jan 31, 2012
Jenny..as Heidita indicated use the simple present indicative for this sentence. - drvicente, Jan 31, 2012
Thanks everyone ,thanks heidita y vicente ,correcto heidita I will try to keep it simple til the mud clears. - jennyo45, Jan 31, 2012

Look feliz, this looks much nicer, an "all bolded" post is always very rough to read, thanks:) - 00494d19, Jan 31, 2012
Okay Heidi I must train myself not to keep using bold lol - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012
I thought it was cuidar "a" but it turns out it's "de" Thanks for drawing my attention to it Feliz :D Can you say "Con" as well? I don't know. http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/cuidar - rabbitwho, Jan 31, 2012
Rabbit, you are most welcome :) In this context I think ''de'' is best but in some situations con maybe correct :) I have used con in this kind of sentence before only to be corrected later. I am 80% syure de is right/correct:) - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012
I think it should be "Me encanta" not "Me encantan" becuase the subject is the verb "hacer", not "muchas cosas". - Mndeen75, Jan 31, 2012
Okay, MNdeen on reflection you may be correct :) - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012
íMe encanta hacer muchas cosas creativas E interesantes ..., especialmente EL español! - 00494d19, Jan 31, 2012

Cuando tenemos tiempo libre a menudo cocinamos en el jardin alguna comida muy sabrosa.

When we have free time we often cook very tasteful dishes on an open fire.

El estilo de vida de los animales libres y salvages nos parece noble y envidiable, pero como siempre, hay alguien que tiene que pagar con su vida.

It seems to us that the wild and free animals have a noble and enviable lifestyle, but, as always, somebody has to pay with their life.

A mí me parece mejor usar software que sea gratis y libre. Pero no es una religión, no hay nada escrito sobre gustos!

I think it's better to use free and open software. But it's not a religion, there's no accounting for taste!

Because free has too meanings in English people say things like "free as in free beer" "free as in gratis" and "free as in free speech" free as in libre" and "open". (Open source) - rabbitwho, Jan 31, 2012
I know my sentences are slightly different again >_< if there aren't mistakes in the Spanish one but they need to match I'd rather change the English - rabbitwho, Jan 31, 2012
