Well, I found this forum because I was looking for a translation. My original nickname was Coquito (my first book when I was a little girl) and my avatar was a puppy (I love dogs). But some members weren't sure if I was female or male, so, I switched to Coffelate. Coffee was the first word that occurred to me when I was thinking about my Country (Colombia). And I like the way it sounds, I like the combination smile

Gracias por corregirme!

Would you like to participate here

"....to me when thinking..." (no comma. If it was "When thinking about my country, "coffee" was the...", it'd be different of course). So: dependent clause (comma) independent clause; or: indep. clause (no comma) dep. clause. I hope that makes sense. - Goldie_Miel, Jan 16, 2012

Now this is virtually giving my identity away lol. I only usually do this with people I trust on skype - but what the hell here goes hehe..................

When I was 12 years of age sitting in school (actually French class lol) the teacher thought my name was Billy. He would ask a question and say......."Billy!" Of course I didn't reply, so he would then go "B I L L Y!!!!!! I am talking to you boy!!!!!" I then twigged on this total baffoon of a teacher was talking to me, so I would answer him.

Of course all my mates in class thought this was absolutely hilarious. Soooooo, needlesstosay, I was then known as Billy to all my mates. I was always playing the fool and messing around (I can almost feel your shock from here in my house hehehehehehe) so this just naturally evolved into "Billygoat." As most of my friends of today are still the ones from aaaaaaaaaaall those many years ago lol I am still very much known as Billy.

Ahhh, now that's a long, old story. My original nick goes back to the days previous to the open Internet. How many of our users know what a "BBS" was? wink

A comic strip that was popular in the 80s is involved. Unfortunately, I think that when I first signed in here, that particular name was not available, so I had to pick a variation.

It is my belief that if Love and Peace were included in every aspect of life that this world would be a better place.

I believe in love, peace and unity. Forever and ever. smile

I chose a mangled version of my real name, so I wouldn't forget it, and didn't give it much thought.

After all, I was only posting one question, and didn't plan on staying. (who knew? LOL )

I got addicted little by little to the forum, and wasn't very concerned to have a cool name. Finally, to maintain continuity, I resolved not to change it for awhile. It's been awhile, but I don't see a reason to change it.

When I was a teenager I played a lot of Watership Down RPGs on the Internet. At that time I called myself rabbit_who_runs_with_the_hares, a bit long, isn't it? After a few years I changed it to "the_rabbit_who" and after a few more "RabbitWho" so there's a mountain of stupid little things associated with this name, and I'm going to change it.. as soon as I can think of something that I like as much as "RabbitWho"

I took my name from Aseop's fables, in particular the one about the The Tortoise and The Hare. I've always been slow, but I stay in the race.

I also like to hide in my shell sometimes. smile

And, of course, I love the water and swimmingexcaim

When my wife and I were in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, about 6 years ago, I discovered that the word for retirees was jubilados. Since I was approaching retirement age, I started telling my coworkers that I loved the Spanish word for retired person: jubilado because it reminded me of the English word: jubilation. Whereas the English word: retired sounds like one is tired all over again. When I joined SD it just seemed the right name to use.

Soy Gringojrf. Pues soy gringo.

I am Gringojrf. When I moved to Mexico I met a Mexican woman and we became boyfriend and girlfriend. My name is Jim and all of her family had trouble pronouncing it. So they called me Gringo. The nickname stuck. So I am Gringo.

Cu-d's Ebony Echo was the name of my amazing Australian Shepherd who became the foundation sire of my line of service dogs. Hence the name Echoline Aussies. The memory of my beloved Echo is never far from my heart.

Please be merciful with my translation...it's the best I can do and I appreciate any and all corrections.

About the name Porcupine: I am living in a neighbourhood of gardens and sometimes see nice porcupines and perhaps I have some inclination to estimate the outside prickly, inside soft creatures.

What do you mean by "estimate" here, Porcu? - SonrisaDelSol, Jan 16, 2012
It's a very archane use of the word which means to resemble. Interesting choice of a word... - Echoline, Jan 16, 2012
Maybe "appreciate"? - ianta, Jan 16, 2012
Maybe emulate? - MaryMcc, Jan 16, 2012
In English "esteem" is a non-transitive verb. That's why it didn't work well here. I like "appreciate" for this sentence. - pesta, Jan 16, 2012
There's an archaic transitive usage for "esteem" as a verb. Most often it's used passively, "... my esteemed friend..." - pesta, Jan 16, 2012
