Why are the highlighted words wrong in these sentences?

Mayor is not used here.

Fue or era for the first sentence. El Greco is dead, I think, jeje, the past tense is apropriate.

Mayor can be used but in a different way. Una de sus obras mayores....

Mayor can also mean old of age, so here it sounds off.

Algunas and unas, we need an expert here, they are so similar I would not know how to explain.

Izan, your answer here ...I would have said algunas. Izan is a very proficient speaker

It is work related to school, but the question I asked is my own and not something asked by a teacher. I am practising writing small essays for my Spanish exam. I asked for corrections of a paragraph on another forum: they highlighted the errors I had committed, but I could not find out why those errors were errors.

"fue" should be "es" because he/she are still of greek origin.

Mayor is a comparative adjective. I think the sentence is saying. He was a great painter of the atistic movement. If so, "Fue un gran pintor del ....."

In the third I think it is okay but I would use algunos rather than unos.

I would probably use un pintor importante, un gran pintor or uno de los mejores pintores

I would consider using algunas here

Yoodle, welcome to the forum. We have a strict poilcy here regarding doing homework for students and this surely appears to be just that. You can always check the dictionary for the meaning of mayor.
