Combining a and el to 'al.'
How should I translate the sentence, 'He is able to run while holding the merry-go-round's bars and jump on it while it is moving fast.' My translation is: 'Él puede correr mientras sujeta las barras del carrusel y saltar a el mientras se mueve rápido.' The 'el' refers to the merry-go-round so it is actually 'it' not 'him.' It would not make sense to say 'al' in this sentence so I believe you have to say '...a el....' Me pregunto si debo poner un acento sobre 'él' en este caso.

Yo lo traduciría así:
"El es capaz de correr mientras sujeta las barras del carrusel y meterse en él mientras se está moviendo deprisa."
it se refiere al carrusel y sí, debe llevar acento porque es un pronombre que se refiere al carrusel.

Phrasal verb "jump on" is traslated as:
meterse ponerse tener algo meter obtener
él ella and ello are the prepositional pronouns that can mean "it". el is sometimes used as a pronoun, not as a definite article.

One little thing - and I'm not a Spanish native at all - I think that sujetar should be reflexive in this case, and it should take the preposition a - ... mientras se sujeta a las barras... As to your actual question, I think you are right - if you used a it would be a él. However, I would also consider sobre él, to indicate jumping upon the horse.

I think you merge the "a" to the verb it self and you'll have saltará the verb in the future form ...
