I know saber and conocer means to know. What is the difference between these two? In what situation can I use them?

In brief, saber refers to knowing factual knowledge whereas conocer refers to knowing someone or a place. For example:

Yo sé donde está Alemania, pero no lo conozco.

-> I know where Germany is, but I don't know it (i.e. have not visited it).

Surely you mean "Sé dónde está Alemania", right? "Germany" is not a Spanish word, and even in German is Deutchland, not Germany. - lazarus1907, Jun 28, 2011
Yup, wasn't thinking, fixed. - Cyradis, Jun 28, 2011
