When do I use LO in sentences..Help

Question

Im only beginner in Spanish and Im really confused when to use LO in sentences..Any tips will be helpful. thank you!

"Lo" often takes the place of the subject, as in "Lo tengo" (I have it), where "it" can mean anything. "Lo" would be used to shorten the sentence when the subject is already known, just as we do in English.

Also, there are common phrases, such as "Lo mejor" (The best or the best thing), "Lo bueno" (the good thing), "Lo peor" (The worst thing) and "Lo que te quiero decir es..." (What I want to tell you is...). In these phrases, "Lo" is again taking the place of the subject, but the subject may or may not be known.

lo is it masculine la is it femine. or him/ her when used as indirect object. las and los mean them masculine/fem or it masc/fem plural.

"Lo" is also "him" and commonly connected to a corresponding verb, ie: "Ayúdalo" "Help him" (imperative).

It should be noted that phrases such as "Lo mejor" are neuter gender.
