Hi I'm having trouble with the subjunctive. I know that you use it in this clause: "es necesario..." So if I had something like this: "Tambien, es necesario que el trate a todos con respetos, tenga (or tiene un personalidad comica), .... would it be tenga or tiene? and if I were to continue the list and was putting verbs like tener or anythiing else in, would it be present or subjunctive?

p.s. Im writing a paragraph about what my perfect boyfriend would be like (project)

Do you mean indicative or subjunctive? You are using present tense in either mood. ... que él trate.... - 0074b507, Mar 20, 2011

You are correct in continuing the list with subjunctive. smile But, after the comma, I think you need another "que"...

"También es necesario que él trate a todos con respeto, que tenga una personalidad cómica, y que sea muy muy guapo."

That was my thought too....a "que" before each item in the list. - 0074b507, Mar 20, 2011

I just found a cool thing for helping with subjunctive. Not what you are looking for but may help

When something or someone is known: indicative When something or someone is unknown: subjuntivo Busco un hotel que tiene piscina: I am looking for a hotel that has a swimming pool (a known hotel) Busco un hotel que tenga piscina: I am looking for a hotel that has a swimming pool (an unknown hotel) Queremos ir a una tienda donde venden tarjetas: We want to go to a shop where they sell cards (a known shop) Queremos ir a una tienda donde vendan tarjetas: We want to go to a shop where they sell cards (an unknown shop) Necesito la chaqueta que tiene rayas negras: I need the jacket that has black stripes (a known jacket) Necesito una chaqueta que tenga rayas negras: I need a jacket that has black stripes (an unknown jacket)

The known/unknown goes along with whether you are informing (declaring) something unknown to someone or whether you are expressing a subjective comment about something that is already known to them. - 0074b507, Mar 20, 2011
