Do you use por or para here...

Question

In the phrase "love for"

for example:

Juan descubrió su amor (por/para) el baile cuando...

Does this make sense in Spanish and if so, do you use por or para?

I do not know the answer, myself, but note that Isabel6565 writes that

"por" means "for" and "para" means "to".....so, the answer is "por"

On the other hand, the dictionary here shows "para" can mean "for", too.

1). for (finalidad)

* es para ti -> it's for you
* una mesa para el salón -> a table for the living room
* esta agua no es buena para beber -> this water isn't fit for drinking o to drink
* te lo repetiré para que te enteres -> I'll repeat it so you

understand

* ¿para qué? -> what for?

and 4). for (tiempo)

* tiene que estar acabado para mañana -> it has to be finished by o

for tomorrow

* diez para las once -> ten to eleven (Am salvo RP)

I sympathize with you, ah1. This "por" / "para" problem is not so easy!
