I found this phrase on dictionary.com Spanish word of the day. What is the literal translation. I know it means to cool things down, but I can't find a verb "enfriar" or the work "animos".

Enfriar;to cool,Animo;courage,disposition.dar animos;to encourage.I think it means something like;it dampened the spirits,or it discouraged.
