The sentences I am going to post are by my one and only José Luis Alvite, as sarcastic and ironic as usual
Instead of posting this as a killer thread, I thought I might post one sentence every other day or so.
I would like you to post the translation and your opinion about the sentence. I will correct the translation, and if you post an opinion in Spanish correct major grammar mistakes. You must post in English and Spanish, let's get a lot of opinions on these controversial sentences.
Please read this message from Alvite himself to all students.
And remember:
Alvite is sarcastic, always pessimistic, nothing is what it looks like
Here goes number 91.
Here he is talking about Obama, and his speech in Tucson at the memorial service after the shooting "I believe we can be better. Those who died here, those who saved lives here - they help me believe." Speech
Don't miss this thread!I am posting the chosen answers on Facebook, on Alvite's wall!

I was one of those who hailed Obama's election with enthusiasim and I still believe in him. But, if things go badly, and history judges him a failure, I will still remember the day in which he spoke openly in Tuscon Arizona. At that time, many men and women understood that it is in the worst moments when human beings realize that the greatest joys would not be possible without the great pains that precede them.
*Mr. Alvite points out that life is a jumble of contrasting moments. The more intense the contrast, the more intense the emotions. Happiness is more acutely felt when experienced against the contrast of pain and suffering and vice versa.
I was one of those who greeted with enthusiasm the election of Obama and I still believe in him. But if things would go wrong for him and his mandate would enter the history as a failure, even so, I will remember the day when he spoke in the open in Tucson, Arizona, and many men and women then understood that it is in our worst moments when we (the human beings) realize that the greatest joys wouldn't be possible without the greatness of the pain that precedes them.
Everything in this world exists together with its opposite. White and black, light and darkness and joy and pain. How it would be possible to recognize joy if we have never lived pain? Each joy contains a bit of the future pain and each pain has inside some of the joy that will follow... I think that Americans are equally great in their pain as in their joy. Obama is simply one of them.
I was one of those who earnestly embraced the election of Obama and I still believe in him. But if things were to go bad for him and he comes to the conclusion he is a historical failure, even so, I will remember the day that he spoke outdoors in Tucson, Arizona, and many men and women then understood that at times it is in the worst moments when human beings come to realize that the greatest happiness would not be possible without the greatest pain that precedes it.
Sincerity without sarcasm, very rare for Mr. Alvite. Is he becoming compassionate?
I was one of those who was happy about Obama's election and I still believe in him. However if things go badly for him and his (time) in history ends up a failure, even so, I will still remember the day he spoke at an outdoor meeting in Tucson, Az, and many people understood then that sometimes, in the worst case, where human beings are concerned, the most intense happiness is not possible without intense pain preceding it.
Sorry Heidi, I had to look up 'intemperie' and still not positive.

I took great liberties with the translation but this is what I think he is saying.
I was one of those who was very enthusiastic about the election of Obama and I still believe in his ability. But if things go badly for him and his presidency is deemed a failure I will always remember the day he spoke from the heart in Tucson, Arizona. It is during the worst of times that people understand that our many blessings would not be possible without the pain and sacrifice that brought them about.
I think Alvite is philosophical instead of pessimistic this time.
Corrections always appreciated.
