What does the following sentence mean?

soy muy feliz que sea importante para ti - when I translate this it tells me "I am very happy that you care about" can somebody help me figure it out?

Well, some additional context would be helpful here, because the phrase is somewhat ambiguous in Spanish also.

The phrase does not say who or what this other person cares about, only that he or she cares about something or someone, and the "I" am very happy that he or she (you) find that this is important.

I am very happy that I am / he/she is important to you. The "sea" here could refer to yo, él, or ella, and since I don't know what this conversation was about, I'll leave that part up to you. Somebody is glad that you care about them (or somebody else...). smile
