Hello everyone. I'm brand new to this forum. What is the absolutely best way to get 100% out of this site?. I want to learn, learn, and learn. Oh ya, and at the same time, not be a pest to you veterans.

  1. Do the lessons.
  2. Listen to Spanish music with an Ipod etc... in your spare time.
  3. Get a beginner's grammar book, the Barron books are good to start.
  4. Get your hands on some audio lessons, Pimsleur, Michell Thomas etc...
  5. Do the lessons.
  6. Try to immerse yourself with TV shows etc.. in Spanish.
  7. Visit the chatroom and spend some time in there reading posts.
  8. Try to make Spanish friends to talk with.
  9. Go through every lesson and book you can.
  10. Ask questions on the forum and try to think in Spanish, if you can't figure out if it makes sense, ask us here.

The problem is the boredom. You will have to find new ways to stay interested.

Hi, Marshall, Welcome to the Forum.

A great start was to fill out your profile, so we have context about your background when discussing questions with you. Thanks!

You'll find this is a very friendly site, especially this forum. Explore the menus. I recommend looking closely at the "More" menu, where you'll find a great Reference section, and much more.

I love your avatar. I watched the early USA Manned Space Program on the TV when I was a kid. Such memories...

Pesta.

Hi, I'm new to the forum as well. The lessons here on this site are great and I've found that it's best to watch the videos more than once. And if you want to move on to the next lesson it's always good to go back later and review the earlier ones. Everyone here has been very nice and helpful, so ask any questions you have if you're not sure or don't entirely understand something. Even if the question seems like it's about something really small or unimportant, you could end up learning a lot from it grin

It's been very helpful to me to participate in the games and challenges. One of the folks who are native speakers or fluent non native will usually let you know your errors. I'm very much a beginner but I think I've improved a lot through those practices. It does take time and effort but the harder you work the more you'll get out of the site.

I would just like to add that if you keep going to the Flash cards section and just keep learning new words, it will really help.

The worst thing for me is to understand 80-90% of a sentence, but be missing one word, the one that unlocks the whole meaning for me. If I have never even heard the word, I'm lost. Building vocabulary through the flash cards is the the way to better comprehension.
