Feeling Blue?

Feeling Blue?

Hi

After the great replies to my last one I thought I would ask another. A Spanish friend who speaks some english used the english phrase "i feel blue" yesterday, obviously meaning feeling down in the dumps.

What would the Spanish equivalent to "blue" be... I presume not azul?

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

The "blues" is a familiar term (when refering to a feeling such as being depressed, extremely sad, etc.) In Spanish we also have such familiar terms for the "blues:

Achicopalado, agüitado, tener la depre, and so on...

Why si language such a complicated thing!!!

Not complicated at all! A couple of people agreed this or that would mean something and fortunately those of us who weren't there at the time of the agreement have dictionaries to see what was agreed upon.

Blue is a funny word. Sad, despondent. Not having much to do with color. In German, to say someone is blue is to say they are drunk!

To have the blues - estar con la depre.

but to sing the blues - cantar blues.
