We will remember

We will remember

I posted this last year at this time. For me, it will never grow old and never grow stale. We must remember the past or be doomed to re-live it.

Canadá, el norte fiel, fuerte y libre.

Across my land, across 6 time zones, every hour for six hours, an Act Of Remembrance will be played out on November 11th..

The cannons will sound.
A bugler will play the last post.
A lone piper will play his lament.
Reveille will sound on the bugle.

Canadians across our vast country will soon stop to remember in profound gratitude our men and women at arms.
We will remember the fallen. Our Highway of Heroes
We will remember those who having offered themselves were returned to us.
We will remember those who returned but were not sound in body, mind or spirit.
The great sacrifices of the past and of the present will be taught to our children and their children for generations.
We will remember them

To our fallen we can only say in unison with the whole commonwealth of nations:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

To our veterans, a heartfelt “Welcome home. Thank you.”

To Canadian Forces wherever they may be in the world. "Thank you."

Canada, the true north, strong and free.

Tthank you Moe , it is well that we all remember those that went before from all

Nations . On behalf of my Canadian son I join in with you and wear my "Poppy" with

pride. Incidentally almost every small hamlet throughout our country have an

" Avenue of Honor " for the fallen of both great wars, but sadly many are

being uprooted for commercial reasons , not without a fight I might add.

We owe a great debt to the Canadians for their great sacrifice on D day.

Here in the States we often forget about the heroic sacrifices made by the Canadian troops in WWII. We honor your fallen; the young men and women who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have today.

Thank you, neighbor.

que bueno pero no tiene nada q ver con este sitio..

I have just deleted this post as it might be offensive to some.

However, I would like to point out, that this forum is not only a learning site but a community where we share feelings, experiences etc and certainly a place to remember the fallen.

I said this last time, and I will say it again: I wish we had a day like this in Spain.

If the remembrance day poppy is a custom and practice in your country, please remember to wear a poppy on November 11. You may also wear it early as a message to others to remember.

This is an important post.

The quality of a country is determined by how they remember and honor their veterans, living and dead.

It seems that it is so easy for politicians to rattle the sabers and justify the expense of war. Strangely, there never seems to be adequate resources to respect, honor and support those people who sacrifice for their countries.

It occured to me that many on this forum would not have heard of John McRae - a Canadian doctor who served in both the Boer and First World War. He wrote the poem after a young friend was killed at the front.

The dead on both sides, in all wars, deserve our respect and remembrance.

Not only those who fought, but also those who had no chance to fight. The blittz and bombings in London and Plymouth, in Dresden and Hamburg, the inhabitants of Hiroshima, the victims of the IRA terrorism campaigns in England, the office workers in the Twin Towers - all these people were also casualties of War.

We must remember them all, in the hope that we will learn never to repeat these things.

I have my poppy already.

I have always hated war, I only wish if it had to happen as most people insist it did, that it really had been 'the war to end all wars'.

Here is today's entry in the remembrance process. This might raise some eyebrows as it is in both English and German. Remember, both sides lost fathers, husbands and sons/mothers,wives and daughters.

Listen to No man's land/Es ist an der Zeit
(I am very uncertain about that German title)

In remembrance of the sacrifice of all those who have served their countries under arms, both those who have returned from war and those who fell, I give thanks today for men and women who dedicate themselves to their countries' good.

It is Remembrance Day. Veterans Day. Armistice Day.

Here is a piper's Lament for the fallen.

Did they beat the drum slowly?
Did they sound the fife lowly?
Did the rifles fire o'er them as they lowered them down?
Did the bugle sing Last Post and chorus?
Did the pipes play the Fleurs o' the Forest?
