Why can't I insert pictures?

Why can't I insert pictures?

I've tried everything: Clicking on the Image button and editing other people's post with pictures to copy and paste the code (there are two different methods to insert them). The pictures never appear. Why?

P.D. I suddenly managed to do it. But it does not work all the time.

I almost had this problem a few times, which seems to happen when an image is also used as a clickable link. In that case, Firefox shows both of these options on the context popup menu:

Copy Link Location

Copy Image Location

It's important to choose the Image location, and not the Link location!

By the way, you can right-click on anyone's avatar to see these menu options both available. - pesta, Oct 26, 2010

If any of the words are capital letters, the photo will not post either. I just replace the capital letters with small letters and most of the time it will post.

- BellaMargarita, Jan 8, 2011

Our user pesta has said that when a url has a space, it won't work. I saw someone else post too that if the url has a "%" (percent) sign in it, it also will not work.

Those are the only 2 reasons I can think of....

Webdunce just commented that "For urls that have spaces, I use tinyurl.com to get a short link to the pic" That works; I didn't think of it sooner. - pesta, Oct 26, 2010

I just click on the picture icon above the edit box, then paste the url into the dialog. It won't display files that have spaces in the filenames, but yours seems to work. For the ones with spaces, I download them to my computer, change the name, then upload them to photobucket.com so I can link to them from here.

Now it is working. I don't understand it!

By the way, I can program in HTML, which makes my confusion even worse.

Next time it happens, see if anyone can go and tell me what's wrong.

The original post had an anchor reference rather than just the picture URL. - KevinB, Oct 23, 2010

Lazarus, when you copy the picture, are you right-clicking on the picture, and selecting "Copy image location?"

That really should work...

I'm guessing that you are copying the url in the browser, which links to the Wikipedia page, and not specifically the image...

It looks like someone edited your post while I was looking at it. You had posted an HTML link to the picture, rather than the actual picture URL. - KevinB, Oct 23, 2010
