On a forum people come and go, some are not even remembered, others were never noticed.

But there are those who are dearly missed. ohh

I have only just seen Renarules on the site, one of our most appreciated members, who had to leave the forum for personal reasons. I still remember her intelligent threads and wonderful and friendly answers, so many private messages we shared....I miss you Rena and I am sure not the only one !

Why don't we say hello and hi to all those who cannot be with us any more. This forum has had three changes since I have been here, and so many left because they did not like the changes, others just the opposite, they came back because of the changeswink

Anyway, as I have just seen Rena, I would like to start with her, Rena, we miss yousmile

(Please mention one person per post).

Thank you Heidita for posting this. - Yeser007, Oct 18, 2010
Thanks for the warm thread, Heidita! I miss the lovely people here...they have always been exceptionally eager to welcome and share with every new member. I hope to be spending more time here myself... - renaerules, Oct 19, 2010
Fidalgo - of course. I have not heard from him by e-mail either - sadly. - ian-hill, Oct 19, 2010
And Rena - ian-hill, Oct 19, 2010
Whom do you especially miss. Of course, thousands, if not millions, of English speakers whould say exactly the same thing. - samdie, Oct 19, 2010
I actually know that sam, I only explained that to my students yesterday, I also said whom is so seldom used nowadays, they can forget about it, they should just know it exists:) - 00494d19, Oct 21, 2010
Some English speakers would notice if "whom" is not used Heidi. But you are right it is slowly disappearing. - ian-hill, Oct 21, 2010

There was a sweet member Quépasa who was here for a short while. She was learning Spanish and also teaching her two year old daughter the language. I remember her as being very helpful and she earned quite a few reputation points while she was here.

It would be great to have you back!!!!! smile

¡Hola Todos!

Muchas gracias por sus palabras amables--especialmente los de Brynleigh, Ray76 y Heidita. I miss all of you very much!

I've been meaning to post a thank you to everyone for all of the help you provided over the summer when I had so many questions and was new to SD. Thanks to all of you, I felt more comfortable than ever before while communicating in Spanish when I was in Honduras. I'm truly delighted by the progress I have made by participating on SD. This is such a fantastic Web Site and you are all so welcoming, helpful and friendly. So, again, thank you!

All is well with me, I just haven't been able to spend much time on SD lately. Besides visiting Honduras, I've been birding and traveling around the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota and also attending birding workshops. In addition, the day after I returned from Honduras, I began taking an intermediate Spanish course at the University of WI.

As someone else said, I'll be back!

Saludos,

Pájaro

Chamaco Malo. He left about a year ago, and I loved him to death. He was hilarious. :/

Sorry folks but Chamaco left because of serious abuse to other forum members. - --Mariana--, Oct 22, 2010

Hola!

I just received a PM from Heidita and was directed to this lovely thread. I'm sorry that I disappeared from the site. I have been very ill. After a recent bout of double pneumonia, it appears that they have finally discovered the underlying problem - there is a mass in my lung. I'm still undergoing tests to determine what it is. In the meantime, my immune system has been trashed and I am catching every infection known to man.

I miss being here and hope that I can get back soon.

alt textHola, amigos! I am giving an Answer to this thread to show that I am not yet one of those “people who are not here anymore…”. (Heidita, that sounds to me like we’re already six feet under. Jajajaja) Well, I just happen to have other things to take care of these days, but I still do visit once in a while and give my two cents’ worth of answers on occasions. I look forward to having more time to spend here again in the near future because in the few months I have been a regular visitor I have met some really nice people and just to be with them again makes it worth coming back.

In addition to the names already given, may I add that of one of my good friends here, Billy Jones. I know that he’s also just quite busy these days.

Thank you so much Ray, Nicole, Gekkosan, and Sir Ian for your kind words. Gekko, the typhoon was indeed a strong one, though its path was up north so we were not affected as much here in Manila, but I sincerely appreciate your concern.

Lastly, though Heidita did not mention me in particular, she knows that I’d still wake up before 6:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning just to be in her Skype group so she won’t miss me that much. Jejejeje

Jason and I agree:

but I remember Seitheach posts and the love he has for our country.

Phil this forum is not nearly as funny without your humor! smile Oddly enough, with the way the Phillies are doing again this year.....I miss all of your "trash talking". wink

There are two mysterious members (to me). I have seen their names since I joined the forum, but never actually saw them participate. They have a ton of reputation points so they must have been an important part of this forum at one time. wink

I would love to meet you both!!!!! smile

In the U.S., tying a yellow ribbon around a tree is symbolic of waiting for someone until they return home. So here is my "yellow ribbon" hoping that all of our old friends return.

Is this symbol known in other countries?

This is purely a tradition of the USA. The most popular explanation for its origin have to do with the US Civil War song": Round Her Neck She Wore A Yellow Ribbon". There are other versions, though. - Gekkosan, Oct 21, 2010
A couple of interesting links about this tradition: http://endtimepilgrim.org/yellowrib.htm , and http://www.loc.gov/folklife/ribbons/ribbons.html - Gekkosan, Oct 21, 2010
Thanks Gekko, great info. - Nicole-B, Oct 21, 2010

I kinda miss Sunshinzmom and Bombera Polaca.

I always feel saddened when a misunderstanding or an ideological difference cannot be solved, and people feel compelled to leave.

If you look through the list of members there are a lot who have not been on the forum for a long time. There have been members who joined, participated heavily and then, "POOF" they were gone. One such member I remember who was very active and very entertaining was juluque.

Are there more members now? - Brynleigh

In those days we were just a few members, like 2000? We had a big celebration for member 10 000 , I even remembered her name! Catherine, who never logged in again, jeje.

Look at the thread, as you can see, Benz was already with us then! smile

We also had only like 10 threads a day.....so the learning part was not such a big deal.

then the lessons were implemented, both Spanish and English lessons, that made all the difference, suddenly the number of threads started to grow, and the number of members cannot be counted any more, at this moment we have just welcomed member number 357460 wink

Anyway, Valerie is one of the other members I miss most, we used to talk every day, she was frequently on the chat, and she was the one who actually suggested the skype chat! I miss her, she never even logs in any more...downer

Looks like you might get to play my Rangers! - Seitheach 4 hrs

And of course rena:

To answer this question:

The site was very different before the last change. It was more of a social site similar to facebook, than a learning site, or rather both were mixed. There was a wall to communicate, we had groups, videos, pictures...no learning videos, by the way, all this was installed after the "crash", as the site suddenly crashed one day, I guess to heavy for the server.

In those days there were many lovely people on the site who have left a long time ago. They did not come along to this new site, actually, there are only a very few "golden oldies", like Ian, samdie, Guillermo, Erica, Valerie....all of them can still be seen, some not very often, but they are still with us.

From those days I remember dearly our chat moderator, there was a wonderful chat on that site too, voice and all!!! Gerry, I wish you had stayedsmile
