Translation trouble!

Question

I have literally translated this sentence as "I could decide that a gypsy on the banks of the river jerte guessed the date of my death, but it would be one of the falsehoods which would be shaped in the books being printed seeming true"... which makes NO sense!

""Podría decir que una gitana a orillas del río Jerte adivinó la fecha de mi muerte, pero sería una de esas falsedades que suelen plasmarse en los libros y que por estar impresas parecen ciertas""
