Different ways of saying "to meet"
Hi everyone,
What is the best way to express "to meet" as in "I'm going to meet my friends in the park" or "Why don't we meet for a cup of coffee"? I have read many different things and am unsure which to trust. One of my more trusted refrences "Breaking through Beginner's Spanish" (a book), says that "encontrar" is used for chance meetings, while for planned get-togethers "quedar en verse con" or "quedar en encontrarse con" should be used. I only questioned this because I can't ever remember hearing it used, and because it is so bulky, I'm wondering if there is a more common way to say this. So I checked on spanishdict which only confued matters; it lists "reunirse con" for meeting by arrangement, but then lists "quedar con alguien" for "to arrange to meet somebody", and doesn't even reference the two ways given by my book. So there are four different possibilities and I have no idea which on is correct or generally used. This is something I use all the time which is why I'd like to get it right. Can anyone help me out?

If you are talking about meeting someone for the first time, someone you didn't know before, then it's "conocer": "Ayer conocí a mi nueva maestra" = I met my new teacher yesterday.
It can also translate as "encontrar/encontrarse con", and you can be talking about an arrangement you've made with friends, relatives, or other people you already know: "Nos encontraremos en el cine a las 8 (de la noche)" = We'll meet at the cinema at 8:00 p.m.
If you're talking about meeting requirements/demands, etc., then it translates as "satisfacer": "Este producto no satisfará las necesidades de los clientes." = This product won't satisfy the customers' needs.

I would go with the "encontrar" as meaning a chance meeting. Something unplanned or very casual.
If I'm going to meet someone in the park, I'll probably say "voy a reunirme con alguien en el parque." A training meeting would be "una reunión de entrenamiento" (or "una capacitación", but that doesn't address your question.)
