How would you say, "He was arrested"?

fue detenido. passive voice (ser+PP)+por+ agente. He was arrested by the police. If just he was arrested (no agent) then use passive se. - 0074b507, Sep 10, 2010

As far as I have heard, both are used but I think fue is the more "dictionary" term and I think fue is more correct, but whatever floats the boat you know. - jeezzle, Sep 10, 2010

There are several words for "to arrest". A couple are detener and presar.

Fue detenido
Fue presado

I have never heard fue presado, and see no verb for presar, are you sure that is the word? I usually hear detener or arrestar. - jeezzle, Sep 10, 2010

My computer has a mind of its own and posts before I finish typing sometimes. Detenido can also mean by traffic or somebody showing up unexpectedly or caught at a railroad crossing . So detenido por la policia is necessary to explain, why somebody was detained
