Es que trabajo means:

I work.

Sorry, but all other answers are incorrect, this is a very colloquial form of answering somebody when they ask: Hey, so what did you do all day? And you answer: Hey, I actually work (unlike others!)

Thanks for getting us out of this snake pit. This is obviously the answer. And, a useful phrase to know. - JoyceM, Aug 23, 2010

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Contrary to some other interpretations, I would have said that the person meant "Es que trabajo" not as a question, but a statement. Like, "It's [just] that I work." You know, as a rationale for, perhaps, not being able to do something. (Like, "It's just that I work, so I can't be home to meet the refrigerator repair guy at 3.") Or he could have said, "¿Es qué trabajo?" Which means, "Is what work?"

Also, this is a learning site, not a free translation service, so next time please just give translating your phrase a try yourself and post it in the question. If you're stuck, you can use the dictionary at the top of the page, or the free automated translator under the tab that says "Translation". Then we'll be happy to help you improve it. Thanks.

¿Eso es trabajo? = Is that work ?....... "es que trabajo" = "it's that I work" or "the reason is because I work" ...... "El caso es que trabajo en un hospital".... "La verdad es que trabajo todos los días". Of course without context these are guesses at what the person might have been saying.

hmm.... I'm not a pro but ill try my best. Let's see, es means is. Que is that, and trabajo means work. So direct translation would be "¿Is that work?". ^_^
