This thread has been created by Marianne and Heidita:

We need some immediate help with the Phrasebook project.

Specifically, we have a back log of more than 4000 suggested phrases! confused Clearly, this cannot be done by one or two persons, namely, the two admins working on the phrasebook, and therefore, we are asking for help from our loyal SpanishDict members.smile

At this moment we have exactly: **1170** suggested phrases! When this thread was started there were around 4300 so we are getting there!

Please A D D your own sentences now, not suggested, please, translated! Find your own translations! And please check for duplicates first!!

About copyright: On the copyright question, we can't copy the entries straight form the SpanishDict dictionary. We license those from another company. We have to develop original content for the phrasebook. We can consult with the meanings that other dictionaries publish. And, if a word has a given translation that is universally understood, we are not prohibited from using that translation simply because another dictionary has published it.

The important thing for now is to supply a correct translation for the suggested phrases. If you cannot decide on the grammar part or if this is colloquial or an idiom etc and have not time to make an example sentence...this is not important now, it can be added later by the admins! grin

We need at least 25 volunteers or as many as we can get to help translate some simple phrases that have been suggested. You don't need to be an expert in Spanish to do this because some of the phrases are as simple as "How are you?" and "What's for dinner?" You chose the phrases that you can comfortably translate and leave the difficult one for someone else.

Please post your name here if you are willing to help us translate a minimum 10-20 suggested phrases each week (or more if you can).

If you are looking for a way to repay SpanishDict for all the wonderful benefits you receive, this is one way that you can really show your support.

Thank you in advance to those who volunteer to help with this very important project.

Actually, I know it sounds weird, but 'persons' is really the more correct way to say it in this case, even though it sounds a bit peculiar. - MacFadden, Aug 2, 2010
Cool, thanks for the correction. - LuisaGomezBartle, Aug 2, 2010
I had no clue, it just doesn't sound as fluid. - LuisaGomezBartle, Aug 2, 2010
You're right. It does sound awkward. Sometimes 'correctness' is like that. :) - MacFadden, Aug 3, 2010
Thanks to everybody for the incredible help, we are down almost 800 phrases, that is awesome!!!! - 00494d19, Aug 5, 2010
We were at 3270 one day ago. How about now, Heidita? - chaparrito, Aug 9, 2010
Using "individuals" might get you past your "persons" awkwardness. - JoyceM, Aug 27, 2010
I hope you don't mind, Heidita. I was excited that we got below 1400! - chaparrito, Sep 8, 2010
