We did it: Phrasebook 5000 entries:)
This thread has been created by Marianne and Heidita:
We need some immediate help with the Phrasebook project.
Specifically, we have a back log of more than 4000 suggested phrases!
Clearly, this cannot be done by one or two persons, namely, the two admins working on the phrasebook, and therefore, we are asking for help from our loyal SpanishDict members.![]()
At this moment we have exactly: **1170** suggested phrases! When this thread was started there were around 4300 so we are getting there!
Please A D D your own sentences now, not suggested, please, translated! Find your own translations! And please check for duplicates first!!
We need at least 25 volunteers or as many as we can get to help translate some simple phrases that have been suggested. You don't need to be an expert in Spanish to do this because some of the phrases are as simple as "How are you?" and "What's for dinner?" You chose the phrases that you can comfortably translate and leave the difficult one for someone else.
Please post your name here if you are willing to help us translate a minimum 10-20 suggested phrases each week (or more if you can).
If you are looking for a way to repay SpanishDict for all the wonderful benefits you receive, this is one way that you can really show your support.
Thank you in advance to those who volunteer to help with this very important project.

Hey, where is my post. I posted out in space and now it is gone. Today, I had no idea that this was going to happen, but I spent hours on the phrase book. I start in the beginning and there are difficult phrases there, but they can be left to the experts. Once we get rid of the duplicates, it will be much easier. You just write, "This is in" for the definition and make sure you x the certify box. I have been sticking with our dictionary and found many of the phrases there. And you don't need sentences. If you just want to do the definition and aren't confidant about the sentence, you've still been a big help.
To check if the phrase is in, type it into the translation bar, All the phrases will show and if it is there, then you can say it is in. If there are slight differences, I might leave it for the moderators. Today I had one :" to split hairs" with kind of a scientific definition, and "She is always trying to split hairs". Now, I think I would say that the phrase is in and delete one of them. We have many duplicates already in. Also, there are some that I can't use due to copy write issues. "Hair of the dog", the last entry and "Misery loves company" have been especially difficult. Look above for Heidita's explanation of copy write issues.
Veo que van muy bién... ¡Felicitaciones!....Volveré aunque sea de pasada para ayudar también...
Saludos a todos mis amigos de SpanishDict...

I am glad to help and I would like to suggest that the Admins could maybe spend their more valuable time first on checking the double entries. I am not sure if when I check a 'suggested' phrase to see if it is there already whether it also checks the 'pending' or 'holding' area before saying it is there or not? That might be what is causing the double entries......
I would love to help as much as I can ![]()

I have suggested 100s of phrases that have not be done yet.
Same here. It probably makes sense for each of us to go in and try to complete our own first, if possible. ![]()
We're down to 2850 suggested phrases!
I can see some people offering so much help we are really very greatful, I am sure I speak in the name of all admins.
Right now we are down almost 1000 suggested phrases! This has been an incredible task!
Some very good help is just find those suggested phrases which are already in the phrasebook. Just write: delete or duplicate in the edited part and we will delete the entry.
Thanks a lot!
Thank you...thank you...to all of you wonderful volunteers!
To be honest, I've been confused by the Phrasebook and how to make an entry from the first day when I first saw the entry form.
So now, since I love SpanishDict and want to help, I've tried to make an entry.
I looked for "Gives one pause" and found in a dictionary something close:
To give somebody pause, give pause to somebody: hacer vacilar a algn
Ok, well, if I enter "hacer vacilar a alguien"... then I can't check the box that says it didn't come from a copyrighted work, can I? But if I don't check that box, it won't accept my entry.
I could change it to "Se hace vacilar"... but then is it really right? I think so but, is "think so" good enough for the phrase book?
And do I need to fill in the English example and the Spanish example?
And is this an idiom, literal, or something else?
I don't want to make this harder than it is. But I also don't want to do it incorrectly. I don't know what to do.
We're down to 2370!
Yo puedo ayudar un poco. Estoy con el tiempo bastante limitado, pero unas dos o tres frases al día probablemente pueda hacer.
