De or desde? And a or hasta?

Hi,

When speaking about traveling "from" a place "to" a place, which is correct to use, de or desde, and "a" or "hasta"? Or are they interchangeable?

Example: I went from Lima to Arequipa - "Fui (de or desde) Lima (a or hasta) Arequipa"

http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/desde

desde 2. from (espacio) desde arriba/fuera -> from above/the outside desde… hasta… -> from… to… desde aquí hasta el centro -> from here to the center

According to this translation (and my experience), I am sure you would use desde and hasta.

Caminé desde mi casa hasta mi oficina.

I can't say which is proper but I would DE and A. I can't imagine how hasta would enter the picture unless you were going a lot farther than someplace originally but then got caught up and just decided that was as far as you wanted to go.
