but not -ien, do..

and

escribiendo: writing

Recogiéndola - can be used to mean 'picking it up' or even 'catching.

lanzar una pelota de goma contra la pared y recogiéndola con la misma mano.

Throw a rubber ball against the wall and catch it/pick it up with the same hand.

And here's another - diciéndole

He ayudado a algun compañero diciéndole una respuesta o una vez escribiéndosela en la pizarra.

I have helped a colleague telling them an answer or once (even) writing it (for them) on the blackboard.
