Hi, Devitte.

"Esto" is used when you don't know what something is, therefore you cannot attach a gender. For example: "What is this?" "¿Qué es esto?" It is used alone.

"Este" is the masculine and is used with a masculine noun. For example, "Who is this boy?" "¿Quién es este chico?"

Click "Answers" then put "esto este" into the search field -- you will find a lot of good info. Also try searching for "este esto" because it will bring up even more good info smile
