Please Translate Studio Apartment for Rent!

Question

I'm confused now. What is the best way to say, "studio apartment for rent". Is it "apartamento-taller en alguiler", "taller apartamento en alquiler", "apartamento estudio en alquiler", or what???? Thanks for your help!!

Hi, Nida.

"Taller" means "workshop", so that would not be a usual choice.

It really depends on which Spanish-speaking country you are advertising in, or which Spanish-speaking country most of your potential client base is from.

In Mexico, an "apartamento", "estudio-apartamento" or "suite-estudio" are common. The word "departamento" in Mexico tends to be what we would call an "apartment" in the US, or a "flat" in England.

In Spain, a "piso" is commonly used for "apartment/flat" an "apartamento" tends to mean more "studio".

I would imagine that if you went with "estudio-apartamento" you would cover the most ground.

The "for rent" part varies by country. In Mexico you would say "se renta estudio-apartamento" but in Spain it would be "se alquila estudio-apartamento". My impression is that "se renta" or "en renta" is more common in the Americas.

I've also read that in places alquilar is to rent a car, a boat, etc., but a house/apartment is arrendar (to lease), but I think that is strictly regional. Alquilar is commonly used for renting apartments as is rentar.
