"ya" at beginning of a sentence

I hear "ya" put at the beginning of many different sentences. I read that it means already , but can it mean something else? I hear it especially used as "ya no..." Thanks!

I am sorry I did not check the dictionary first. I see that with "no" it means "not anymore" . That makes much more sense! - pkadams, Apr 13, 2010

thank you very much for finding that for me! - pkadams, Apr 14, 2010
I will really have to study that list! For me, Ya sounds so much like YOU, or YES, or even "I", that it becomes very confusing to interpret quickly! - pkadams, Apr 14, 2010

Besides the "already" and "No longer" that you mentioned, ya commonly means "now" or "currently".

We've had several previous threads on this, but I don't seem to be able to find the correct keywords to find them in a search. Our dictionary does show examples of that context, however.

Hola!

What a great question. I was looking through Word Magic which is a great program for the computer if you are looking for one, and there are many meanings with the word "ya".

We need a native to answer your question.
