"Adult content" questions now acceptable?

Has anyone else noticed that some of the posts in the past couple of weeks have had some overt sexual references either in the title or in the post? Am I being too prudish?

I ask because in the past I have seen these sorts of posts disappear quickly, but they don't seem to be disappearing lately.

I had recommended this site to a Mexican friend who wants to improve her English. She was concerned about possibly running into posts which deal with "adult-content" questions, and I assured her that this site would be just fine.

Should I redirect her? Maybe I am too picky?

Thanks.

I agree totally that their have been overt sexual references lately. I am not comfortable with this. - kmeza, Mar 15, 2010
I agree, and have been wondering whether or not they would be moderated. I'm not a prude but I get the feeling they are just 'trying it on'. - galsally, Mar 15, 2010
mountaingirl, I need to contact you, please open your PM function so that I can give you my mail. - 00494d19, Mar 17, 2010

Is just the bare mention of the word sex automatically considered dirty or adult despite being a natural function?

For better or for worse, it appears that a substantial portion of the membership would prefer that humans (and the rest of "God's creatures") reproduced asexually. Oddly enough, these same people would probably insist the world is ordered according to "divine principle". This would seem to suggest that they believe that God "messed up" when it came to the mechanics of reproduction or that certain aspects of the "ordained order of things" are not to be discussed.

On a practical level, if your interest is linguistic ("how to say X" or "what does X mean"), you would do better to visit "http://forum.wordreference.com/". There are also a number of sites along the lines of "urban.dictionary.com" that specialize in "slang".

That isn't the issue for me Samdie; it's the site being used inappropriately, similar to when kids ask for spanishDict to do their homework for them! ;) - galsally, Mar 16, 2010

Samdie as sarcastic as usualwink

This site is based on its family orientation. Now this may not be everybody's cup of tea, however I find it as a commercial idea very clever.

There are a lot of sites which explain in detail all kind of questions, this one does not belong to these kind of sites. And that is probably why this site is popular in its own way. wink

Privately you can swear as a trooper, you can't do this on this site.

And threads which may be considered "adult content"( sex, violence, abusive speech) will be deleted.

I have checked and deleted two threads I found.

Adult content threads are not acceptable on this site. Please do not answer them or ask such questions if you are a regular member.

thanks.

I think a lot of the questionable posts are from, let's say, our less mature Internet friends that are trolling for yuks.

Hi Mountaingirl.

I agree with Heidita that we shouldn't provide answers. Just flag them and she or Eddy will delete them!

I don't think you are too picky, mountain, actually this is a family site and posts like this are not acceptable.

However, we would appreciate very much if all could flag such posts or point them out to us by PM, I am almost always here....but I cannot check all posts on the site.

Please use the flagging tab. thanks a lot for pointing this out.

Then maybe this forum is needing a taboo section.

I agree that any posts that are not in good taste, and that would include overt sexual references, should be flagged, moderated and in some cases deleted. It isn't needed and it doesn't serve our purpose, which is to learn Spanish.

Right, but aren't those words part of the language too? Maybe what's offensive for you is not for me... "coger" is offensive to me but not to Heidita... how do you explain that? :) - Benz, Mar 18, 2010

Can we get a rundown on what exactly is considered adult? Example: Is just the bare mention of the word sex automatically considered dirty or adult despite being a natural function? If it is then that's fine, I'd just like to know so I don't answer any more questions of that nature since I answered a couple like that the other day.

If only that it was just being risque or not; but it is being "offensive" or not which is entirely subjective. - 0074b507, Mar 17, 2010

Me disculpas, Maria, pero no estuve tanto del hecho que temas adultos y sexo no eran usado en paises que hablan español. Tal vez debo que intentar aprendiendo a hablar irlandes en lugae de esto...

Hi william, I am sorry, your post is not too clear, but anyway, this is not open to discussion.

It is not a question of whether we like it or not, or whether we do it or not, this forum, and I repeat, is family oriented, certain topics are not discussed on this site. This is clearly stated on the forum rules, I would appreciate a lot if you and everybody else read them.

  1. Keep your content clean and appropriate

Do not post offensive material (language, videos, usernames, pictures, etc.). Questions or Answers with offensive content will be deleted as this is a "family-oriented" forum and should be appropriate for all age levels.

If these rules do not meet your expectations, you must simply find a place where you can freely discuss these issues, there are a lot of sites on the web where you will get all the information you need.

Better get some adult user disposed to help you with that. Don't make it public.

Asexually, now there's an interesting thought. It would certainly be a lot less messy. Seriously though, could someone, probably mountaingirl as she raised the question, please direct me to one of these offensive posts.
