How to open a Link in a new Window

Hello Everyone!

If you feel like I do, and don't want to have to navigate away from spanishDict.com when you click on a "Link", there are two ways to "Open Link In New Window/Tab".

Firstly, if you have "Tabbed Browsing" enabled, when you open a "New Window", it actually opens a new "Tab", the words will read "New Tab". If you do not have "Tabbed Browsing" enabled, the words will read "New Window"

  1. You can hold the "CTRL" key while left-clicking the "Link". This will open a new "Tab" or a "New Window" depending on how you have your browser set.

  2. Without holding the "CTRL" key, you can also "Right-Click" on the "Link" and "Left-click" on "Open in New Window", or "Open In New Tab" depending on how you have your browser set.

For your information, if you do not want tabbed browsing, in IE, go to tools menu (if you don't see a menu bar File, Edit, View Favorites, Tools, Help", just right click somewhere on a blank space near your icons where you see the little house and printer icon, and then left-click on "Menu Bar")...to continue, so now that you have your menu bar, in IE, go to "Tools" menu, then go to bottom where it reads "Internet Options", left-click on that and a new window opens. Go to the bottom where it reads "Tabs", left-click on "Settings". A new window opens. Uncheck where it reads "Enable Tabbed Browsing". Then click "OK". You then have to close the browser and open a new one for it to work.

If you are using the Firefox Browser, and want to remove tabbed browsing...Click on "Tools" menu, then just click on "Tabs", then just click on "A New Window". You then have to close the browser and open a new one for it to work.

Hope this helps everyone.

It actually works, hold the ctrl key, and (at the same time!!) open this link, it works!! I hated that too, especially when you were writing something...this way the page stays open!

Especially useful when you want to look at somebody's page for example, while you are answering a question, which is what I just did, wonderful!!

The simplest way to open a link in a new tab is to use a mouse that has a wheel in which you can 'click'

For any hyperlink (that is text that has been underscored with a URL = a www adress), simply move your mouse/pointer to that word and then click the wheel on the link. IE for Windows NT and newer version all support this feature, as well as, Mozilla for Linux.

I've never had to do any type of configuraion on my web browser, either....just buy a mouse that has the two buttons, and a clickable wheel.....

Try it now....wheel click on this link to open a new tab to the best site on the internet grin

I have a click function, but this does not work - 00494d19, Jan 22, 2010
Hello bdclark0423. A person would need to configure the mouse first. Also I am not sure if it works with this site. - Rolest, Jan 22, 2010
hmmmm, every mouse I've bought has always worked for me....but Rolest's method works as well. It actually will open links tabs when your looking at links that are imbedded in other files, i.e. Word docs, or Excel, or e-mails. - bdclark0423, Jan 22, 2010
