'soy' or 'me llamo'.
Is it correct to say either 'soy' or 'me llamo' when telling someone your name?

Me llamo is the correct one. Me llamo is "I call myself...tal cosa." Soy is what I am. Example. Mi usario is ChamacoMalo, porque I'm a rebel. That's what I am. Unless Heidita comes to my house and gives me a beatdown in person, that's what I'm going to continue to be. Soy is what I am, Me llamo is what I call myself. ![]()
That's not what I heard 'em call ya...![]()
That's just a joke, Alex. Yes...that's perfectly fine. The most important thing is that it conveys the idea. There are like a million ways to say anything in any language...as long as the idea is clearly communicated, it's perfectly fine. ![]()
I would say Mi llamo, but that's just me. Soy is saying literally, "I am (Your Name)" Mi llamo es (YOUR NAME) means that my name is etc. but u can basically do anything u want. Both work in Spanish language.
La gente me conoce como Alex... por lo... llámame Alex!
(that work???)
Either is acceptable. I prefer me llamo because soy sounds awkward to me, but that is probably just because I speak English as a native language. Although, I'm "name" sounds a bit awkward without context as well.
Also, this question has been asked before (de hecho, it was asked by Maciek071).
Sí, y se puede decir "Mi nombre es..." (my name is...) también.
