An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).

Mañana es nuestro vigésimo aniversario de casados.Tomorrow marks our twentieth wedding anniversary.
2. (fraction)

De acuerdo al contrato, una vigésima parte de las ganancias de la venta será destinada para saldar la deuda con mi cliente.According to the contract, a twentieth part of the proceeds of the sale will be set aside to pay the debt owed to my client.
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).

Me iba a quedar en Japón veinticuatro meses, pero en el vigésimo emprendí el regreso.I was supposed to stay in Japan for twenty-four months, but I returned on the twentieth.
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).
