Usage note
When used as an adjective, "veintiuno" becomes "veintiún" before masculine nouns and feminine nouns that begin with a stressed "a-" or "ha-" sound.

1. (number)
a. twenty-one
Solo faltan veintiún días para que salgamos de vacaciones.There are only twenty-one days left until we go on vacation.
Vinieron veintiuna personas a mi cena de cumpleaños.Twenty-one people came to my birthday dinner.
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).
2. (number)
a. twenty-one
El ganador de la rifa es el boleto en el que aparece el veintiuno.The winner of the raffle is the ticket with twenty-one on it.
b. twenty-first (in dates)
El solsticio de verano es el veintiuno de junio.The summer solstice is the twenty-first of June.
