An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).

Mi hermano tiene trece años pero se porta como si tuviera cinco.My brother is thirteen years old but he acts like he's five.
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).

El trece es mi número de la suerte.Thirteen is my lucky number.
b. thirteenth (in dates)
El viernes trece se considera un día de mala suerte en algunos países.Friday the thirteenth is considered an unlucky day in some countries.
