An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).
1. (lacking good sense)
a. foolish Mi oponente necio me subestimó. My foolish opponent underestimated me.
b. stupid El niño necio no pudo resolver el problema. The stupid boy couldn't solve the problem.
2. (obstinate)

a. stubborn Mi hermano es bien necio. ¡Nunca me hace caso! My brother is so stubborn. He never listens to me!
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
3. (foolish person)
a. idiot Había muchos necios en mi escuela que nunca lograron mucho. There were a lot of idiots in my school who never achieved much.
b. fool ¡Qué necia! ¡Dejó su portátil! What a fool! She left her laptop!
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).

a. stubborn person Los dos son necios pero su relación funciona bien. They're both stubborn people, but their relationship works well.
