A feminine noun is almost always used with feminine articles and adjectives (e.g. la mujer bonita, la luna llena).
A word or phrase restricted in usage to literature or established writing (e.g. sex, once upon a time).

Roberto tuvo varias novias en su mocedad.Roberto had many girlfriends in his youth.
b. young days
"En mi mocedad jugaba todo el día con el balero", contó mi abuelo sonriendo."I used to play cup-and-ball all day in my young days," said my grandfather with a smile.
