An adverb is a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or other adverbs (e.g. to run quickly, very tired).

a. hardly
Se dormía malamente con el calor que hacía.We could hardly sleep in that heat.
b. barely
Te entiendo malamente cuando me hablas en francés.I can barely understand you when you speak to me in French.
c. badly
Cenamos malamente en un bar del barrio antes de ir para el teatro.We ate badly in a local bar before heading off to the theater.
d. just about
Sobrevivimos malamente con el sueldo de mi marido.We just about manage on my husband's salary.
