b. irresponsible
Fue muy inconsciente de su parte haber manejado borracho.It was very irresponsible of him to drive while drunk.
3. (involuntary)
a. unconscious
Al hablar, Tomás se tocó la nariz en un gesto inconsciente; estoy segura de que me estaba mintiendo.As he spoke, Tomás touched his nose in an unconscious gesture; I'm sure he was lying to me.
b. unwitting
Pablo se había convertido en el cómplice inconsciente de un defraudador.Pablo had become the unwitting accomplice of a fraudster.
This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
4. (unthinking person)
a. irresponsible person
Esa mujer es una inconsciente por abandonar así a su perro.That woman's an irresponsible person to abandon her dog like that.
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).
5. (psychology)
a. unconscious
Los sentimientos reprimidos son parte del inconsciente.Repressed feelings are part of the unconscious.
