A noun is a word referring to a person, animal, place, thing, feeling or idea (e.g. man, dog, house).
a. la chimenea
(f) means that a noun is feminine. Spanish nouns have a gender, which is either feminine (like la mujer or la luna) or masculine (like el hombre or el sol).
Gabe is sitting next to the fireplace reading a book and drinking a cup of hot chocolate.Gabe está sentado al lado de la chimenea leyendo un libro y tomando una taza de chocolate caliente.
I'm going to warm my toes by the fireplace.Voy a calentarme los dedos de los pies cerca de la chimenea.
b. el hogar
(m) means that a noun is masculine. Spanish nouns have a gender, which is either feminine (like la mujer or la luna) or masculine (like el hombre or el sol).
I long for those winter nights around the fireplace telling stories with my grandparents.Añoro aquellas noches de invierno alrededor del hogar contando historias con mis abuelos.
