A transitive verb phrase is a phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or other particle and requires a direct object (e.g. Take out the trash.).
a. to feign to be
¿Por qué finges ser alguien que no eres? ¡Sé tú mismo!Why are you feigning to be someone you are not? Be yourself!
b. to pretend to be
Por lo visto, fingió ser médico y tuvo engañado al personal del hospital durante un mes.Apparently, he pretended to be a doctor and had the hospital staff fooled for one month.
c. to come on (slang)
A very informal word or phrase used by a particular group or community as a substitute for standard language (e.g., joint, john).
La nueva jefa finge ser muy amable y comprensiva, pero a mí no me engaña.Our new boss comes on all sweet and understanding, but she won't fool me.
