An adverb is a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or other adverbs (e.g. to run quickly, very tired).
1. (hardly)
a. barely
Duermo escasamente seis horas al día.I barely sleep six hours a day.
b. scarcely
Desde el referendo, ha pasado escasamente una semana.Scarcely a week has passed since the referendum.
2. (marginally)
a. slightly
El partido recibió un número de votos escasamente superior al de las pasadas elecciones.The number of votes the party received was slightly higher than in the last elections.
3. (poorly or thinly)
a. sparsely
Es una región escasamente poblada y rica en flora y fauna.It's a sparsely populated region that is rich in flora and fauna.
b. meagerly

Estas familias viven escasamente con lo poco que ganan al mes.These families live meagerly on the little money they earn each month.
c. meagrely (United Kingdom)
Para bajar de peso, hay que comer escasamente.To lose weight, you need to eat meagrely.
d. poorly
A los profesores de allí los pagan escasamente, así que tienen que complementar la renta.Teachers there are poorly paid, so they need to supplement their incomes.
