A prefix is an affix that is added to the beginning of a word to create a new word with a different meaning (e.g. auto, pre).
1. (intermediate)
a. inter-
Durante el entreacto fuimos a beber vino.During the interlude we went to drink wine.
This refers to an idiomatic word or phrase for which there is no word-for-word translation.
no direct translation
La puerta estaba entreabierta y podía escuchar lo que decía la gente en la habitación.The door was half-open, and I could hear what people in the room was talking about.
Esta casa fue construida en el periodo entreguerras.This house was built in the period between the World Wars.
2. (reciprocal action)
a. inter-
Esas dos calles se entrecruzan en la siguiente esquina.Those two streets intersect at the next corner.
