An adverb is a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or other adverbs (e.g. to run quickly, very tired).
1. (in effect)
Pudimos comprobar que, en efecto, la computadora funcionaba mucho más rápido que antes.We were able to confirm that the computer was indeed working much faster than before.
b. sure enough
Dijo que iría a la reunión, y, en efecto, allí estaba.She said she'd attend the meeting, and, sure enough, there she was.
2. (used in affirmative answers)
¿El plazo de solicitud vence hoy? - En efecto, así es; a las 12 del mediodía para ser exactos.Is it today the deadline for applications? - It is indeed; at noon to be precise.
b. that's right
Usted es la persona a cargo, ¿verdad? - Sí, en efecto. ¿Qué puedo hacer por usted?You're the person in charge, aren't you?- Yes, that's right. How can I help you?
