I've heard Que rollo (ll pronounced like a y) used as a greeting, sort of like what's up

Not in Spain (roughly before 2009)!

If I had posted that, I would have gotten a long lecture about how neither the "r" nor the "o" nor the "j" sound anything like they do in English, and that I need to post IPA symbols, and not pseudo-phonetic representations, to be able to come anywhere close to the real Spanish pronunciation. rolleyes

Contigo soy más severo porque no estás al mismo nivel. Esta persona parece que no sabe aún cómo se pronuncia la J en español, así que el rollo del IPA le iba a sonar a sirio antiguo.

The expression must be "¡Qué rollo!", because the Spanish J does not sound like LL, but like a hard English H. "¡Qué rojo!" sounds more like in English "roho", not "rojo".
