Please proofread my Spanish.
I'm practicing my writing in Spanish. Can someone review this for me? Thanks in advance for your help.

The other day when I was at a store something happened. There were a lot of people in the store and we were waiting in line when a man in front of me dropped his money. I was about to tell him what happened when another man picked up the money from the floor. This man knew that I had seen everything; nevertheless, he tried to pretend that the money was his. I told him, 'That money belongs to this man here.' We looked at each other in the eye for several seconds when, finally, he admitted to himself that he was wrong. He saw that he didn't have any other choice but to do the right thing and return the money to the man that lost it.

They are synonyms, "recoger del piso" is less used, but I did an experiment: I dropped something small and asked my daughter and she told me 'recoger del...piso'. Perhaps I would answer the same or 'levantar del piso', who knows? In real life we don't necessarily speak our own **language **properly, **do **we? Thanks.
Pablo,
Thank you for clearing this question up -- now I know that I can use both words for the same thing!
p.s. please note that I corrected your English.

Thanks, Pablo. I always get confused with the words 'suelo' and 'piso.'
Some comments:
- 'recoger algo del piso' is also used although less frequent (Google).
- in this case, instead of 'pretendió' you can use also 'aparentó' or 'fingió'

Thank you
Thank you so much. This helps quite a bit, especially the explanation of when to use pronouns.
The first "yo" is possible, but remember to omit it by default. If you have been told that personal pronouns are optionals, it is wrong: they are only used for specific purposes, and in all other cases they sound horribly foreign. For example, in "este hombre sabía que había..." we don't know for sure whether "había" is "yo" or "él", so here the pronoun makes sense: you call your readers' attention to this "yo" for a good reason; otherwise, try not to alarm them with so many personal pronouns.
"The ''' thing" is exactly why why have a "lo", so "la cosa correcta" should have been "lo correcto".
By the way, "tried to pretent" does not mean that he managed to pretend, and since he clearly pretended, there is no need to say "tried to"; he did!
