Hola, me llamo Christy. I've been trying to learn Spanish. I'm going to Mexico to meet my future in-laws, and I was wondering if you had and tips that would help me in my learning process so I will be able to communicate with them somewhat.

Apart from Quentin's tips, which are really good, we like photos and good will like verybody else I guess...well, apart from that, have a look at our flashcards. Make a search, like greetings, or something. and then you can learn a few words or sentences which might be useful.

Muchas felicidades por tu compromiso smile

Ask your fiancé if any of his family knows or is learning English. They may enjoy hearing your English as much as you do their Spanish.

Doesn't your fiancé speak Spanish? He's more familiar with your level, his family's usages, etc. than we are?

Have you tried writing to them in advance of meeting them or is this engagement recent? Dropping his mother a note discussing the upcoming meeting might be an nice ice breaker. Include some photos of you and their son and discuss the events. It will provide you with a common ground for a discussion.

Good luck and congratulations on your engagement.

Feel very free to visit it yourself, Quentin!

To what end? She's looking for people who can teach her to speak Spanish fluently.
After two minutes of conversing with me she'd wonder if I could speak either English or Spanish. I'm a Southern boy and a Texan. Neither is known to do justice to English speech. As for Spanish...Don't make me laugh!

Gracias. I am just learning Spanish. I appreciate your help. I want to talk with people who speak it well so I too can become fluent. Thanks for your patience.

May I suggest that you visit our chat room. I believe that they have some native or fluent Spanish speakers there.

Buenos días. Me llamo Denise. ¿Cómo está?

I'm getting paranoid about correcting anyone. I mean it to be instructive. It seems to be taken as my being critical. So let me take the opportunity to explain my motive.

Buenos días.
Bienvenida al foro.

And to answer your question:
Me llamo Quentin.
Estoy bien. ¿Y usted?

We have many discussions and some instructions in the Reference section explaining how to type Spanish characters.

I hope you find this helpful, as it was intended.
