testado? or probado

Question

I need to translate "Final product not tested on animals". Have come up with "Producto final no probado en animales" but a colleague insists that it should be "Producto final no testado en animales". Testado I thought is to do with making a will, not testing! Any thoughts anyone? I would appreciate it very much as it is soon to be printed on labels for products from Australia to be sold in Spanish speaking countries. Thanks very much. Regards

That's funny! I would have thought it would be "testeado" as I haven't even heard the word "testado". Sound too much like tostado, doesn't it?

Me gustaría añadir una cosa más.
Acabo de mirar en un bote de crema y aparece en la etiqueta "no testado en animales". Es decir, que se puede poner de las dos maneras. La frase corta y la más larga.

Ahí tienes tu respuesta, Ian, se ve que a pesar de existir una palabra perfectamente válida, como "probado", se suele usar la técnicamente incorrecta.

"Producto final no testado en animales" significa "producto final no probado en animales".
Es decir, quieren decir lo mismo. Ahora bien, en España en las etiquetas de cualquier producto de las tiendas siempre aparece "producto final no testado en animales". Siempre aparece así, no sé por qué. Desconozco si hay otros sitios donde se utiliza esta expresión.

This is the best choice in my opinion, testado is an anglicism in this context.

However, I think it would be understood.

In chile and Argentina,,they use* testear*.

testear.

Hi there Woajiaorobert and thanks for the prompt reply. Would we look like idiots if we used 'Productos finales no testado en animals? on our labels? Our European distributor insists this is idiomatic and commonly used in Spanish speaking countries, though I am not sure they haven't simply got it wrong.

Would "El producto final no se ha probado en animales" sound right?
