I have a Spanish speaking boyfriend and we have a HORRIBLE time trying to communicate. Does anyone know the BEST book for us to each have for quick reference during basic conversation? The same book would be good so the translations are the same. He has a book and I can't speak on the Spanish portion, but there are a LOT of mis-spellings, and things like this....should be spelled..like, but is spelled.....lkie. I don't want a book that has so many mistakes, for me or him! I'm not interested in proper grammar usage right now, just Basic communication!!! We are fallin apart!!Please help!!!!!!!

I was just at Barnes and Nobles the other day, 3 entire shelf-stands for spanish-english learning and dictionaries. Other languages were lucky to just get one shelf on a stand. I would suggest Barnes and Nobles if one is available, very large selection compared to books-a-million, and books-a-million is organized horribly.

Please have a look at our lessons, they are free and very entertaining. Look at the flashcards, very good way to learn. There are several about love, friendship etc, with sentences in use and lots of useful vocabulary.

Well, I know what you are talking about because I used to have an American boyfriend and we were supposed to have an advanced level as a second language speakers.

I think there is not any book in this respect. Perhaps it is not the answer you wanted, but the key ingredients are patience, perseverance and hard work. Take Spanish lessons, study a lot, make friends in SpanishDict to practice with, and in time you will be able to communicate more effectively.

OK, calm down and stay away from that exclamation mark key. wink

Why not make a date of going to a big bookstore where you live? You can browse the dictionaries and find ones that work for you. A good bookstore should have many Sp-En dictionaries to choose from. In fact there are so many good choices that it's difficult to give any recommendations. You could also visit a library, and then buy the book online if you find one you like. For your purposes, check out the travel guide books and dictionaries written for tourists. They are concise.

It's hard to have a love affair when you can't communicate your deepest thoughts and feelings, but working together patiently you might make it. Good luck!
